Over 25 years ago, Marcellus Gunn began his training in martial arts at a Memphis Community Center. In 1989, his Sensei Norman LaCaden twice a Karate Hall of Famer would train him in traditional Shotokan.

Marcellus competed in the following circuits: SMAC, MKA, and AKA. His training was enhanced by attending Japanese Karate Association Seminars (JKA) nationally. Ultimately, Marcellus was awarded the silver medal in the Junior Olympics.

Marcellus is twice 2012 State Champion in the SMAC circuit. He has returned to a Memphis Community Center and gives back by teaching free classes in traditional Shotokan. Gunn's Karate-Do gamered four state champions in 2012. Every Tuesday and Friday beginning at 6 pm for beginners and 7 pm advanced, Sensei Marcellus Gunn teaches his students discipline and the traditional art of Shotokan.
