Mrs. Tyfanae Sturat, 2nd Dan Black belt has been teaching Taekwon-Do in Lucedale since 2005. Mrs. Stuart earned her Black belt in 2005 and was certified in Unified Taekwon-Do International under the direction of Grandmaster D.J. Sias in 2007. She is currently working towards the rank of 3rd Dan.
Mrs. Stuart is the Director and Chief Instructor of American Martial Arts which offers classes for all ages including the “Lil’ Dragon” program for children under ten and traditional Taekwon-Do classes for 11 years through adult. All classes include instructions in traditional Korean forms, self defense, and sparring. Mrs. Stuart emphasizes and teaches by example the tenets of Taekwon-Do (Honor, Humility, Discipline, Patience, Charity, Discernment, and Perseverance).
While these principles are taught inside the dojang, it is Mrs. Stuart’s goal that these beliefs become a part of each student’s character outside the classroom. American Martial Arts students participate regularly in community outreach projects, such as collecting pet food for the local humane society, raising money for local missionary families, participating in the annual Christmas Parade, taking toys and gifts to children in the hospital on Christmas Eve, Raising money for children to go to summer Church Camp, and numerous services to elderly widows in our community.
In order to help her students become well-rounded individuals, Mrs. Stuart encourages her students to excel in all areas of life, for them to be good citizens, they must help the community, for them to be good students, they must study hard, for them to be good martial artists, they must be focused and be challenged to find their inner strength. The school aged students are required to be in good academic standing at school, as well as certain random acts of kindness performed in order to advance in rank in Taekwon-Do. Mrs. Stuart strongly believes that it is easier to train a child then to fix a man and therefore welcomes the challenge of working with young, aspiring martial artists.
American Martial Arts’ Competition Team, “The American Tigers” participates in the SMAC Tournaments each season. Bringing home numerous trophies as well as Overall Team trophies, has given the American Tigers the confidence to show what solid Taekwon-Do training combined with outstanding character development can do for any individual.
